Weather
In Long Island, the temperatures can swing wildly between seasons, and can play a large role with the battery. Inside of your Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan Rogue, or Audi Q7’s battery is a mix of chemicals that contain electricity. During long summer heat waves, excessive temperatures can cause the liquid catalyst-electrolyte to begin evaporating. Not only will this de-stabilize the mixture inside, causing a shorter lifespan, but it can also form rust, which has it’s own negative effects. Alternatively, during the winter, the frigid temperatures can also freeze these chemicals, making for decreased power outputs. Powertrain Age
Typically a battery lasts between three to five years, but even if it's relatively new, there can be other issues that a car’s age can bring. The alternator leverages the power supplied to the wheels to turn that into electricity, which can be stored in the battery. Battery Condition
Regardless of its age, there can be a series of problems that your car’s battery exhibits that can hinder its performance. Frequent overcharging and a buildup of acid can lead to the casing bloating, which can cause issues. Additionally, if you find rust or corrosion on the terminals, they can quickly sap the battery of its power.
